Collection of scarves using the Possum / Merino / Silk Yarns
all done in 2001

I wove these scarves on the left in January this year which was soon after the Possum yarn was available in colours! Set at 16 epi and woven in a 4end block twill,
they turned out as supersoft scarves
with no "prickle" factor.

Due to my work I had to wait till April for my next trial, a series of 10 scarves on a network drafted advancing twill pattern. The warp is the 90/2 TEX set at 20 epi, some of them are woven with the same yarn in the weft and for the others I used the available colours in the 2/28 YSW

In April we came out with two additional colours, the eggplant and the olive and since I had never done any shadow weave before this was the perfect opportunity. The yarn used is the 2/28 YSW, set at 12 epi.
By now I was unstopable. These I did just recently.
After the scarves are taken off the loom they feel quite stiff but as soon as they are immersed in soapy handwarm water they turn soft.
All these Possum blended yarns full quite a bit, even the tighter worsted 90/2 TEX fulls nicely.
It is important to warp and weave
in a relatively open structure. I use
the ruler to determine the sett and then do it just a bit less than what
the ruler says. One has to be able
to see "through" the material
when it comes off the loom. Because the carrier yarn is
Merino, one has to be careful not to overfull the finished items. Well, depending of what you want of course!
On the right is just the right chair to sit it and do the fringes on all those scarves!

These broken twill scarves I did after a weaving friend of mine from the Deep South of New Zealand gave me this book on block weaves. In these both, warp and weft are 2/28 YSW sett at 16 epi and woven at 16 ppi

My next project is a series of scarves in a lacey weave, I chose blocks in Bronson spot, have
just taken them off the loom and washed them, they feel great. In one of them I used what we
call the "Rolls Royce" of yarns, a blend of 65% 17 Micron Merino, 25% Possum and 10% Silk.
 Feels like a Million Dollar!
